2020 – It’s the start of a new decade. We all want that fresh start, to look and feel our best! As the end of January quickly approaches, I am sure we are all struggling to keep up with all the goals and intentions we set out. Time gets the best of us. We get sick, busy and life just happens!
To help us with achieving our goals and feeling our best, I wanted to revisit the topic that you all know I love most – DETOXING.
What does DETOX actually mean?
Many of us think of a very restrictive diet and drinking some nasty juices! However, it is not only about the foods we eat, but it also encompasses a wide range of areas in one’s life such as our mental, physical and spiritual state. The word DETOX is defined as a regimen or treatment intended to remove toxins and impurities from the body.
Detoxing gives our body a break from toxins and stressors, that can ultimately allow us to unwind, reset and refocus! It also helps us to break bad habits, useless thought patterns and reduces overall negativity in our surrounding environment.
7 Simple Ways to Detox - Mind, Body, Soul
One of our detox pathways is through our skin and regular exercise encourages circulation in the blood and lymph system. As a bonus, it will also enhance digestion, reduce tension, lubricate joints, and strengthen your body. During these winter months and with the frigid cold we do not sweat much unless we make a point to do it! So hit the gym, a hot yoga class, sit in an infrared sauna or play a sport to get your sweat on.
Our minds are constantly worrying, stressed and thinking about what to do next. Just as little as 10 minutes of meditation a day can help settle that busy mind and detox any negative thoughts that weigh us down. It can allow us to refocus on our intentions and restore inner peace. Not into meditation – try journaling instead!
Kapalabhati Pranayama breathing is a yogic breathing technique that cleanses and detoxifies your mind and body. Some of its known benefits are it releases toxins, increases oxygen to cells, purifying blood in the process, improves digestion, energizes and clears the mind and much more. Try it out by following these steps
4. DRY BRUSHING
It increases circulation and breaks up lymphatic stagnation in the body and flushes your body of toxins. It is great to leave one in the shower so you can use it daily. How to use it: using small strokes, start from the feet and work your way up to your lower back, and then bring the brush up to the neck and work your way down to your lower abdomen.
Most of us do not drink enough water per day. This step is one of the easiest to do! Just have a bottle of water with you throughout the day and drink up! Increasing our water intake helps with cleansing our systems, improve digestion, aid in weight loss, improve energy and can avoid cravings. Add lemon and fresh herbs for some natural flavouring and benefits. Ensure you have at least 2 L per day!
6. REMOVE CLUTTER
We all know that the clutter begins piling up if we don’t take the time to clear it out and organize every so often. So, the first step is to remove all the unnecessary clutter in your home or workspace. Most of us put this off and prioritize other things, but this is a critical step, so set a date in the calendar and commit to it. A nice tip is to bring in a plant to help purify the air!

7. REMOVE /REDUCE
Remove or reduce refined grains, added sugar, caffeine, alcohol from your diet. All these foods act as toxins in your body and don’t allow the body to fully detox when consumed daily. Instead, replace them with herbal teas, green veggies, natural fruits, and whole foods.
